I have my own webserver... because I am just that dern 1337.

So I like Kheldar, he's a good guy. He just has this skinny thing goin on that I'm not sure if I'm all that receptive of it. He's probably playing WoW right now, and has no idea this is happening. That makes me happy. Not sure why. I missed my cs lab today, and I am kinda mad about that. Gr.

I know hes never going to read this, but i thought i should say it.

Nathan was probably one of the better friends i've ever had and will be greatly missed while he is gone. I hope that he stays safe while in the marines. He's a tough guy, and I know he can take it. But still, who knows where he is going to be after boot camp is over...makes me worry. Wish i had been able to spend more time with him while he was still in sterling.

Hopefully we'll hear from him soon...by now he's settled into boot camp, but i doubt writing home is the first thing on his mind. I know he has a few peoples adresses. After he sends something, I'll post up his adress so we can all send him stuff. I'm sure he'd love to hear from everyone.

Woke up very confused
When i woke up, there was no alarm. I thought that i had woken up early. this is good, i thought, now i can get some work done before class. That turned out to be horrible wrong. It was already 11 o'clock and i had missed my first few classes...including one that i had a take home quiz due in. I quickly dashed off to the class that I had in 20 min. After that i found my calculus teacher to turn in that quiz. got really really lucky and she accepted it.

Studied for Calculus test
did this for about 4 hours...i doubt anyone wants to hear about it. besides, i don't want to write it.

Dinner
ate alone and studied some more

Test
I think it went alright. I was not unsure in any of the answers that i gave. If i get points off, I think it's going to be mostly from simplification errors. I say that now, but I'm sure i screwed up something else. Well...just have to wait and see.

Engineering project
Only one other guy showed up, so we just worked on a few designs. the thing we are working on is the MacGuyver project. We are given a toolbox full of junk, and have to asseble a contraption to complete some kind of task. we already finished task one (set off a mouse trap, then 5-10 seconds later, set off another one). That first one went pretty well and we got an A on it. this one is a bit more complicated. We need to make a device that pickes up a playing card and then transports it 8 feet to a 1 foot X 1 foot area. We have a few designs, one of which i think will work...sort of. we'll know a bit more after we start testing.

Alice
This is a, as my sister would put it, gay program that we are using as a learning tool in engineering class. We are actually beta testing it; pretty soon its going to be used for what it was made for- to teach MIDDLE SCHOOL GIRLS how to program. For someone who has no programming experience, i can see how one would learn something from it....but as a CS major, there is nothing to be gained. The final project we have is to design a game. I just wrote one tonight that involves driving around a track. you have a time limmit, but rather than go through gates or check points to get more time put on the clock, you get to hit Alice (looks like the one from alice and wonderland...blue dress and all) with the car. Its great, and knowing my prof. he's going to give us an A on it. (he's not too fond of Alice either)

Running
didn't feel like doing to usual of running around the drill field, so i just picked a direction and started running. I ended up in some area without any lights and all these creepy farm buildings around. It was really dark and there was this clicking sound that always seemed to be behind me....i ran out of there pretty fast. i don't really know what the excact total distance was, but I ran for 45 min at about an 8 min mile pace....so call it 5 miles, give or take.

Woke up very very late
       I sat in my room last night and said, "alright, time to go running." ....then i just continued to sit there. After stairing at a wall for 10 minutes, i realized that there was not going to be any running that night. so i promised myself that i would run in the             mornign. Morning came around....still, no runing took place. what did take place was two english essays. nothing long, about a page each.

English class
    We didnt really do any work, just had a big discussion about economy and politics. It is pretty heavy stuff....just seeing how much power the wealthy in this country have, and how that power is continuing to grow.

Practice
    Its tuesday, so we skated gates. fun stuff, and the fact that we arent doing something like running stairs only makes it even better

Dinner
    Ramen

Halo
    played for a short while, then just sat around and talked with the guys on first floor. a pretty normal evening.

CS project
    much more straight forward than the last one. i feel much more cofident in the code that i'm writting for this.

Talked to dane
    always good. Talked about how the sterling crowd really is pretty cool. She just got a rap that jeff and john recorded....i'll post it up later, everyone has to hear it.

Running
    3.8 miles again. should have gone further to make up for last night...oh well. I need to start running this faster. I think i'm actually going to do a mock 5k in a week or so just to see where i am.

well, i'm off to take a shower, then go to bed. going to try to wake up early and start studying for a calc test.

Calculus lab
    woke up at 930 and walked to the emporium. The lab for today wasnt too difficult; Nathan and I knocked it out of the way fairly qyuickly. I also took two quizes there, got 4/4 on one, 3/4 on the other. not great...not bad though. Walked back to campus and grabbed some luch before going back to the room.

Bits of work
    I put a few finishing touches on my CS project that was to be demoed to the TA that day and read an essay for english. It was actually a really insighfull bit of wrighting done by a native american in the 70's/80's. Altough it would be good to read it for yourself, the basics of it are about how white people/modern people live in such a wastefull and unnatural manner. He goes into great deal how we feel the need to "sanitize things" and "rape the earth." As i said...interesting.

Classes
    Had english first. The teacher wasnt there, but he had left instructions in an email saying that we were to get into groups and discuss the essay. I wish the rest of the class had enjoyed it as much as I had. Most of them just found it boring....damn drunks...Also, during the class, i had my laptop out and was just checking up on a few things, mostly that CS project. My wallpaper right now is a nice picture of Dane that I took last time she was down here. Gohara (*spelling*), this fairly atractive oriental girl (atractive in the model sense...not really cure) looked over and went, "wow, she's pretty. so thats really your girlfriend?" See Dane? even hot asians are jealous of you. We finished up early, but i didnt really have anything to do, since i normally have the CS lab right after that class. So, i just went and sat in the lab for 45 min fooling around with the project. Lab time came and everything went alright....could have been better. We'll see what the final grade turns out to be.

Dinner
    Consisted of a Cookies-&-Creame milkshake. I couldnt resist...they're so good....

Hanging out with people
    Spent time with the only new people i have met since being here at tech. This is a group of guys down on the wellness hall (no drinking, no drug lifestyle) down on the first floor of the building. We just sat around and talked for a bit and played some Halo. They are a pretty cool group of guys, and very different from pretty much everyone else you would meet here at Tech. If i'm not off campus next year, i will almost certainly do the wellness hall thing. Seems like it fits me alot better.

Talked with Dane
    Short conversation. She had a pretty bad headache and decided to go to bed early. Everyone, send her your love; shes had a pretty toough week, and definatly deserves it.

Went running
    3.8 miles (+or-.1) i think i'm going to time myself in another two weeks just to see where i'm at, and how much work i still have to do before the race on thanksgiving. (listened to At the Drive-In while running)

Breakfast with nathan

Classes
    Sociology, calc, CS, and engineering. Nothing special really happened in any of them

Short nap
    Got about 4 hours of sleep the night before, so i was kindof tired right after class.

Package from home
    Awoke to the sound of a UPS delivery man knocking on the door. The stuff my mom sent me managed to make it here in one day. Got a new cell phone (mine has almost died...its been in the process of dying ever since it went swimming three times), more ramen soup (not enough...but is there ever enough ramen?), and some snack stuff that moms always put in lunch boxes. All that was cool, but the best part was the cookies that my little sisers made. I ate cookies and played around with the phone for the next hour or so. Talked to my dad and dane for a bit too. Both Dane and I think that someone needs to throw an anti-baseball party tonight. I only had a bit of time left before practice, so i set up the interfaces for my CS project. This one looks like its going to be a bit more simpler than the last one.

Practice
    It was pretty cool today. After a few quick drills (mostly speed work with stairs) we played some capture the flag. Even though its a fun game already, we made it even better by playing it in the HUGE football staduim. No no...not the field, the stadium. Rediculously high bleachers and spiraling ramps and staircases undernieth them. All in all, it made for a very cool game indeed.

Dinner
    Couldnt find anyone to go with. Then again, i didnt try very hard. Went to West End.

Random little things
    Didnt really feel like starting on any large piece of work, so i just checked up on assignments, talked with the guys across the hall, watched the last half of a movie (Hero), listened to music. It was cool....i was listening to the band Nathan's in (The Maids of Cadiz). For those of you that don't come around the VT campus, (which is none of you, save katyln/paul) I listen to my music loud. The way i see it, these college kids (again COLLEGE KIDS) that listen to middle school bands like lincoln park, good charlotte, and Ying Yang Twins (you know...that "skeet skeet" song) should be exposed to some of the more, in my opinion, talented bands out there (The Mars Volta, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd, Murder City Devils, Incubus, Chili Peppers.....it goes on) I'm not saying that what they listen to is bad...its just that i'm not a fan of it. It seems like most people never get exposed to anything except what's on the radio. Either way, enough of that tangent, I was blasting Maids of Cadiz and two people stopped by asking who it was. They were shocked when I told them it was my roommate. I really do think they could go somewhere with that band. One of them liked it so much that he wanted a copy of it. Sorry to the guys in the band...I owe you for at leaste one CD, but it is getting your sound out there....thats good, right?

Fire Alarm
    This was a planned one that we have to have once a month. It was acctually enjoyable; a few other guys and I just threw around a frisbee the entire time.

Run
    Went 3.8 miles (+ or - .1). I'm trying to get ready for a 5k race that me and my dad are doing over Thanksgiving Break. I would like nothing more than to suprise him.

Time to go call Dane.

Heads up to anyone that doesnt know, there is a battle of the bands on sunday the 25th that we are playing in. It is being held in round hill, not too far away, and will be judged by the Dreamscapes Project It would be awsome if we could get some kind of group going to it. We won the last one that was held there and hope to do it again even though there will be about 6 more bands.

A successful fishing trip

Dane, my father, grandfather, sister, and I went to another lake today to do some fishing. This one is on some kind of nature reserve, so there are no houses, docks, or buildings around the entire lake. In fact, besides the two roads leading to it, there are no signs of civilization there. It was quite peacfull to just sit out on the water and fish. We caught about 30 all together. Dane got both the highest number of fish, 8, and the biggest fish, a bass that weighed almost five pounds.

We ate the four fish that we took home for dinner. In honor of Dane, my grandmother made white rice. Needless to say, she ate the entire bowl.

Pretty much everyone in my family has now met Dane, and they all love her. Last night everyone was talking about how adorable, sweet, and great with kids she is.

You know how when we were freshmen and everyone was telling us how high school would go by so fast and we would miss it when it was over?

Right.... High School seemed to take forever and i'm really releived that it's finally over.

Project graduation was pretty cool. Gambling was fun, even if blackjack is not my game of choice. (Should have gotten a game of spades running...) If anything, it wasnice to see everyone who graduated for the last time.

Over all a good weekend. Dane came home, so we got to spend all of saterday and sunday together. Tennis and walks in the park one day, chuch and girls lacrosse on the other. Its kinda odd for me to say it, but i kind of enjoy going to church now. Being with dane is probably a big part of it, but even without that aspect, it is still worthwhile. Despite the fact that i don't beleive in the religious aspect of it all, i really do feel that the message that the church is trying to spread is a good one. If nothing else, it makes you think about both yourself and society.
